JOURNEY

Petra Mann is a contemporary multidisciplinary artist working predominantly in metal and ceramics. She has a FdA degree from Bristol School of Art where she studied Design and Material and continues exploring a mixture of disciplines from her Bristol studio.

She grew up on the Swedish west coast with its rugged barren archipelago and spent her summers on the remote island of Gotland. At a young age she knew she wanted to travel and has since visited about 50 countries and lived in Norway, London, Barbados, The Hauge and now Bristol, UK. Travel has always been a great love, observing everyday life in a new culture and enjoying different landscapes is a great source of inspiration.

Though she grew up with plenty of artistic relatives it was first in Barbados that she started taking classes in drawing and painting. This lead on to abstract mixed media art classes in The Hauge and ceramic studies prominently in throwing. When relocation to Bristol in 2021 she started studying at Bristol School of Art and has found a love for work in metal but also combination it with ceramic, textiles and found objects. Some process and pieces from her studies are available in the portfolio. Petra considers herself a designer and maker rather than artist and though her discipline currently leans towards jewellery this may shift again.

She is not looking to go into large scale production but rather limited unique pieces thinking about the environmental footprint of all we make. Where possible, she will always choose the most environmentally friendly option and ethically sourced materials for all parts of her work.
